Symptom

You want to set up an e-mail address that forwards everything that arrives to other addresses. Messages should not be stored in a mailbox on the server.

Solution

Important Note: Persistent redirects of this type can have very bad effects on your email availability, because the redirect will also forward all incoming spam. Not only does the spam count against your outgoing mail, but many e-mail providers, e.g. GMX, web.de, Freenet, AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, Outlook and more, may block your domain if it redirects spam to your external mailbox. It is therefore not recommended to forward incoming mails to external addresses. Instead, use the POP3 pick-up service of the respective e-mail providers. For more information, see the related FAQ article (see below).

To forward incoming mails,

1. Log in to the webspace control panel.

2. Click the "Mail" tab.

3. Click on "Create E-Mail Address".

4. Enter the e-mail address. If you want the e-mail address to access the webspace control panel (for example, to change the forwarding destination there), check "Access to Customer Panel" and assign a password. If you only configure the e-mail address yourself, uncheck it and do not set a password. It is not necessary.

5. Remove the check mark "E-mail inbox". You only want a redirect, not a local mailbox. If you leave the check mark, all incoming messages are not only forwarded, but stored in the local mailbox, too. The local mailbox will continue to fill until it is eventually full and returns an error to the sender. Since you do not want this, turn off the local mailbox of the address by unchecking the box.

6. Click on the "Forwarding" tab.

7. Tick "Activate E-Mail Forwarding".

8. Enter one or more recipient addresses in the box next to "Turn on e-mail forwarding". You can enter one recipient address per line.

9. Click on the "OK" button.
