Symptom

You want to access a Linux command line (Linux console, Linux shell).

Solution

You can access the SSH console by at least two ways: (A) Without additional software directly from your web browser with an SSH client built into the webspace control panel, (B) with a separate SSH client such as PuTTY.

A) Via browser SSH console

To access your server via SSH, you do not necessarily need an additional SSH client. An SSH client is built into your web space control panel, which makes the Linux console available as a command line window in your browser.

1. Log into the web space control panel.

2. Click on the "Websites & Domains" menu.

3. Click on the "SSH" icon.

The console will automatically log you in.

B) Via SSH client, e.g. PuTTY

One of the most widely known SSH clients is "PuTTY". PuTTY can be downloaded from our website using the link shown below.

After download PuTTY, start the program. It does not need to be installed, but starts immediately. For your SSH connection you will need three values: server name, user name and password. For an SSH connection to your Bitpalace Business Booster you can either use your domain name or your host's name (e.g. rhein.bitpalast.net, elbe.bitpalast.net …). The host name, user name and password can be found in the server welcome mail that you have received at the beginning of the contract term. For user name and password use the same data that you are using to access your web hosting package's FTP ("srv-…").
