Symptom

You want to be able to reach your website not only via http:// but also via https://.

Solution

a) In the "Hosting Settings" of the domain check the box "SSL / TLS support". This is the default setting in most webspace packages. If you need to check the box first, then click on the "OK" button in the hosting settings and wait 15 minutes for the web server to load the new web server configuration.

b) You need an SSL certificate. How to create a Let's Encrypt certificate is explained in another FAQ article.

c) If your site contains absolute references to resources beginning with "http: //", you must replace all of these references with "https: //". Otherwise, you will not see the green SSL lock in the browser, but a warning that some data sources are not encrypted using SSL.
