Symptom

When you try to send e-mails, the server responds with an error message similar to these:

  • 550 <...@example.com> Relaying Denied
  • 550 Relay not authorized
  • 553 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed thru this MTA (#5.7.1)
  • 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my allowed recipients list
  • 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)

The exact wording depends on your e-mail client, a backend server or the SMTP server.

Cause

p>The SMTP server requires you to login with a user name and password before you can send mails through it. This shall guarantee that no unauthorized persons send mail through your server. If your access credentials are wrong, the server will not forward your mail.

Solution

Check and correct your access credentials. You need to set

  • server name
  • login name
  • password

These data can be found in the server welcome mail that you have received from us when your server was initially set up. The login name is the e-mail address of your mailbox.
