Solution

Theoretically, there is no limit to mail attachments, but in practice email totaling more than 10 MB is often problematic. Because many receiver systems limit the receipt of mail to a maximum of 10 MB per transmission, in order to make it difficult for attackers to block mail servers. As a rule of thumb, the smaller the mail, including the attachment, the more likely it can be delivered without any problem.

Sending large emails can be difficult on sender systems. Mails that are not accepted by the recipient system remain in the queue and are transmitted again and again to the recipient. This generates unnecessary error messages and computational load.

To ensure that receiving and sending functions as problem-free as possible in your webspace, e-mails, including all checksums, headers and attachments, must not be larger than 50 MB at Bitpalace.

In practice, this means that mail content and attachments cannot be greater than 40 MB, because there are still many technical information and checksums added that can easily turn a 40 MB mail into a 50 MB mail. Keep in mind that mails with a size of 40 MB will often not arrive at the recipient because recipients limit the receive sizes to much smaller values.

It is therefore advisable to use cloud storage solutions to exchange large files, e.g. Dropbox.
